In Baja California we enjoy winter season BIG Time! During the last month of the year several Christmas events are held in several counties. If you are visiting Baja, don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy one of these celebrations wherever you are going. Baja California awaits for you with open arms!
1.-MEXICALI / CHRISTMAS TREE AND URBI NATIVITY SCENE
A massive Christmas tree is lit up in the middle of City Hall. You must see this impressive display of technology alongside the monument created to Baja California ( the monument represents the four counties in the state, currently the state has a fifth county; Playas de Rosarito) the monument looks like a giant cactus holding a golden sphere that represents the sun. Additionally, you can enjoy the Urbi Nativity scene where hundreds of families gather together to admire the intricate detailed work of a beautiful Christmas Nativity Scene. A MUST while enjoying the scenery is some sugar coated churros with a cup of hot chocolate or a traditional atole deliciously prepared in any of the urban carts that you will find across from the Nativity display.
2. MEXICALI / HOLIDAY VILLAGE AT THE FEX PALISADE AND ICE RINK.
At the FEX Palisade Mexicali hosts one of the biggest shows across the State for the Christmas season. The Christmas Village consists of an impressive Ice Rink, an enormous Nativity Scene with life-size scene stops where you can hear and follow the nativity story. To top things off, you can find Santa, who will gladly take your child’s gift wish list for Christmas. A highlight is a place dedicated to food lovers! A new attraction this year will be the Grinch Village. Dare to enjoy Christmas like you did back when you were a child.
3. TECATE / PARADE OF LIGHTS.
In early December, the "Parade of Lights” is organized by the famous beer company that carries the same name of the County where it is crafted. It is a huge event that has been held consecutively for 18 years and counting. For 2015 the Parade of lights lasted approximately 2 hours! Both Tecate residents and visitors from across the State gathered in this enchanting town to enjoy the show held at one of the town’s main boulevards.
4. ENSENADA / HARBOR BOAT PARADE OF LIGHTS
In the middle of the month the very traditional “Harbor Boat Parade of Lights” is held in the port of Ensenada. One of the nicest parades held across the State where boats are seen from the harbor with gleaming lights and firework displays. Activities are carried both out at sea and on land. At this annual festival families can enjoy hot chocolate, traditional coffee, Mexican Antojitos and boating tours at very reasonable prices. Have a playdate with your children here and you will get more than a smile out of them that night, you will see happiness on their face!
